An Ocean Awaits releases only music that is important, music that is beautiful and music that is intriguing. Beyond fads and charts, we release albums that will stand the test of time or at least speak intelligently and artistically about our time. This is because we agree; when our end comes we would like to look back with fondness on what we’ve done.
Like most people you know, An Ocean Awaits was conceived by accident. Your particularly foul-mouthed author, chasing up payment from a failing distribution company, did his best to be intimidatory:
“If you don’t sort this s@#$ out, a pair of concrete shoes and an ocean awaits.”
While no one drowned, no s@#$ got sorted and a band’s royalties disappeared in a swarm of creditors claims, the phrase “An Ocean Awaits” hung in the ether. Gathering meaning and permanence like a magnet attracts iron filings, “An Ocean Awaits” came to be a record label.
